Playing Tips
This short, channeled par 4 requires the first real test of course management. There are two bunkers located to the left of the fairway, and a wasteland to the right, which are to be avoided. It is important to get your drive onto the short grass, however, in order to hit the green in two, so be careful to keep your tee shot straight. The green is protected by a bunker on the right and two bunkers at the back of the green, with numerous run off slopes from different angles. The bunkers and run off slopes are not what you need to be most worried about here. This green complex holds a large, awkward mound at the very front of the green, which can determine how close your ball gets to the flag.
Pro’s Tip: You may feel as though there is a trend here in the first few holes, but it truly is the key to success at Cape Wickham Golf Links. Down-wind, take one club less and land the ball before the front mound and run it onto the green. The mound can influence all manner of approach shots, and given the firmness of this green, landing the ball on the putting surface often means running off at the back, which leaves a very difficult up and down.
