The 15th is our final par 5, and the hole that takes you closest to the impressive Cape Wickham lighthouse, the tallest in Australia and the tallest stone lighthouse anywhere in the southern hemisphere. While the tee shot features a short carry across sand, the last half of the hole is downhill – and thrilling. Off the tee the safer miss is to the left, but that leaves a blind second across the crest of the fairway. Only those who crush their drive down the middle will see the green on their second shot. For the rest, it would be wise to head to the top of the hill to look at what is in front of you before playing your second.

As you head over the hill on the fairway you see the pure, beautiful layout of this 15th hole. You have the lighthouse on the right-hand side of the hole, then mesmerising views of the rocks, Bass Strait and Victoria Cove on the left. The scenery on these back five holes is truly world class. Like the previous hole, the 15th fairway is angled steeply from right to left. The safer play out to the right should feed down to the lower level, but if you hit your ball too safely and leave it on the fairway’s top tier you will face a very awkward downhill approach across a mound and with the water lurking behind. Golfers who position their second shot down the left can aim an approach at the mound and use it to feed balls toward the flag.

Pro’s Tip: The tee shot needs to be threaded through the gap of the bunkers that are at the start of the fairway, this is the textbook line. When hitting your approach shot into the green, however, you must cater for the severe right-to-left slope. As mentioned in the description, it is vital to aim around 5 metres to the right of the green to ensure that you use the mound effectively. If you aim at the pin here, your ball will roll left and is unlikely to threaten the flag.
