Getting To King Island

Three Melbourne airports have flights to King Island, with Regional Express (REX) flying out of Tullamarine airport, Sharp Airlines flying out of Essendon airport, Air Adventure flies charter flights and is also based out of Essendon but has some select flights out of Moorabbin airport and Vortex airlines flies charter flights out of Moorabbin airport. Generally the flight time from Melbourne down to King Island is between 35 and 45 minutes depending on the type of aircraft and weather conditions.

If you’re transiting in Melbourne, we recommend flying with REX as you can transit between flights conveniently within Tullamarine’s International and Domestic airport terminals, but check the REX website to make sure flight times enable you to do so. Alternatively REX and Sharp also fly up to King Island via Burnie.

If you’re a group looking to play 4 of Australia’s top 10 courses all located in Tasmania which includes both Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes here on King Island, and then also Barnbougle Dunes and Barnbougle Lost Farm down on mainland Tasmania, get in touch with Air Adventure or Bass Strait Golf (Vortex) as they can package together your flights, golf, accommodation and transportation specifically tailored to your trip.

Biosecurity when Travelling to King Island

King Island, is part of the State of Tasmania and has a natural advantage as an island and is relatively free of many pests, weeds and diseases that are present on mainland Australia, and the rest of the world.

You can help protect this beautiful island by ensuring you don’t bring any unwanted pest guests with you when you come to play and stay. Please remember not to bring any fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, animal products, plant material, soil and seeds. King Island has some of the best produce in the world – so there’s no need to bring anything!

Please also check that your shoes and golfing equipment have been cleaned and dried and are free from soil, weed seeds and other potential pests or diseases. It only takes a weed seed or other introduced pest or disease to spoil the magic of this near pristine part of the world. It is a beautiful place – so let’s keep it that way!  Your help is appreciated.
